Songs that lift my gaze

I love the way that certain songs so powerfully draw my gaze to Jesus and remind me of foundational truths that I so quickly forget. I find it so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of life (and this is even without the information and emotional overload that news channels bring) and lose sight of the anchor of my soul.

Different songs speak to me in different seasons of life but I can clearly see God’s grace to me in using songs to reset my thinking or, at the very least, to open my eyes to see how my gaze has wandered.

I need the constant reminder to “fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” Hebrews 12:2

Some of the key songs that God has been using recently to invite me back to Him are Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Most beautiful / So in love, Psalm 46 (Lord of Hosts) and Take me back.

These songs also feature on two playlists I’ve created this year as a way of filling my mind with Christ-centred hope-filled truth to cling on to when I am tempted to put my trust and hope elsewhere.

Sometimes I try to fix things in mind by creating images to go with lyrics that speak powerfully to me. I use Canva, a free app for text and images.

Do you find there are certain songs that God speaks to you through? Do you create playlists or images to help you remind you of key truths?

  1. Yes to those playlists! And there is definitely something about creating images that highlight specific nuggets that I want to hold on to. Thank you for sharing this my dear!
